Hi, take a seat, make yourself at home, you are now part of the Pine Brewery family! We specialize in organic and home made beverages, not only alcohol based, we do soft drinks, natural drinks, all of which give us the good vibes! I’m here to slowly ease you into the festival known as Oktoberfest which was born in Germany and is the heart and soul of this tradition, however, the festival traveled across oceans and seas and has eventually found its way in the United States, which is great! Can you believe the festival serves upwards of 7 million liters of beer each year? That’s in Germany alone.
The Roots of Oktoberfest
Beware, not all people enjoy Oktoberfest, my wife is the living example for this, she doesn’t like themed festivals at all. Instead she chooses to chat with her friends on Twitter and Instagram. Most of the time she sits on the couch and plays mobile mobile games, (bear with me) she plays … FIFA Mobile. A football game, I wouldn’t have seen that coming from a mile away, I guess it’s one of the reasons I love her, she is hard to read, unexpected most of the times, but she hates beer, that was also unexpected. I too used to play football in High School, good times, guess things have changed and using your phone to play is more fascinating than the real thing. The other day she was looking for FIFA Mobile hack 2018 or something along those lines, what’s the point of them if you can’t even make your own progress in the darn game? I digress.
The original festival takes place in October each year, in Munich and it lasts for two weeks straight or until everyone falls flat from drinking beer and puking all over the floor. I have attended the festival once by myself and it is very heart warming to see such large groups of people enjoying one of the greatest beverages in the world. Oktoberfest was officially born in 1994 and it mostly lasted until the German Unity Day however, each year the dates differ ever so slightly making the festival last for 17 on 18 days depending on the year. Even if the name would make you think the festival is held in October you are wrong, a little, the festival begins in late September and ends in early October, it barely scrapes the month of October which is rather strange considering the name they gave it.
Oktoberfest and the US
Oktoberfest is present in many states of the US, unfortunately Colorado isn’t one of them, so each year I pack my bags and head towards the closest festival there is. Most of the festivals in US are known as sub-divisions of the big boss, Oktoberfest itself. They are smaller, miniature versions of the original but they have the same charm and character!
Germans have this weird obsession with pretzels for whatever reason, you will find them literally anywhere if you decide to attend an Oktoberfest festival. Grab one if you get the chance, they are surprisingly good, not your average pretzel for sure. At the end of a beer drinking and pretzel munching day, Oktoberfest will turn out to be more than it promotes itself to be, it’s not all about beer, you may meet people you wouldn’t normally talk to and you could even hit it off. For me Oktoberfest is the one and only festival I wouldn’t want to miss, there’s too much life in it and I adore every second of it.
